Health Financing Policy for universal health coverage (UHC)

Health Financing Policy for universal health

Health financing is a core function of all health systems and plays a pivotal role in advancing universal health coverage (UHC) by improving effective service coverage and financial protection. At least half of the global population lacks access to essential health services, while around 100 million individuals are driven into extreme poverty annually due to out-of-pocket healthcare expenses. This scenario demands urgent action.

This training course is designed to enhance the skills and expertise of health policy and financing professionals and researchers in critical areas related to UHC, enabling them to more effectively support their countries’ UHC initiatives. The objectives are to:

  • Build and strengthen capacities for the design, implementation, and monitoring & evaluation of country-specific UHC programs.
  • Promote the dissemination of research findings on health financing issues in Africa and foster information sharing and professional networking.
  • Provide a platform for engaging policymakers and facilitating exchanges and debates among researchers, policymakers, practitioners, and civil society at national, sub-national, and regional levels.
